Functional Family Therapy

The Children's Aid Society developed a Functional Family Therapy (FFT) program in 2003 to meet the needs of Bronx families reuniting with youths who had spent time at State Office of Children’s and Family Services (OCFS) residential facilities.
FFT reduces recidivism through highly structured and culturally sensitive home-based family therapy. Counseling sessions are generally spread out over a three-month period and emphasize the importance of respecting all family members on their own terms.
The program complements Children’s Aid's Community Re-entry Program. It has been so successful that it has been expanded to serve Children's Aid foster care teens in Staten Island.
To learn more about FFT, please refer to the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s December 2000 Bulletin on Functional Family Therapy.
