Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications
Overview: Working closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Assistant Director will play a vital role in the daily and strategic operations of the Marketing and Communications Department. The Assistant Director will serve as the department’s managing editor and provide editorial perspective for all Children’s Aid communications including annual reports, news releases, reports, newsletters, and marketing initiatives. This role calls for a talented and versatile professional who will capture the essence of Children’s Aid programs and values and assist in developing its strategic messaging.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Establish strong relationships with internal development, policy, and program teams.
• Serve as editor of Children’s Aid print and electronic media; lead cross-departmental teams to coordinate writing, production, editing, and delivery of all print and electronic media produced by the Marketing and Communications Department.
• Lead the Marketing and Communications team in creating content for the web site, annual report, program collateral, and policy pieces.
• Set all timelines, deadlines, and production schedules for annual reports and other major communications and development publications.
• Work with Director to lead media outreach efforts, including media relations and press releases; ensure messaging is consistent and supports the Children’s Aid mission and strategic goals.
• Facilitate the creative development and implementation of marketing plans and initiatives to strengthen the Children’s Aid brand
• Assist the Director in brand guardianship to ensure brand integrity across all communications platforms.
• Develop messages and materials to advance policy strategy and promote programmatic impact.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Master’s degree in communications, marketing, English, or business plus at least five years experience in progressively responsible positions managing communications in a nonprofit organization.
• Ability to direct, manage, and evaluate communications and marketing plans and activities.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills; ability to apply writing skills for a variety of formats and audiences.
• Strong organizational skills, self-starter with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of education and/or youth development issues.
• Investment in the needs of vulnerable children in low-income communities.
