As I look toward 2012, I would like to thank our committed supporters, dedicated staff and caring individuals for their generous support to more than 70,000 New York City children who The Children’s Aid Society served this year. During this holiday season, it is important that we all remember the children of New York City struggling with poverty. So many of the young people we serve are suffering because they simply do not have the means or support they need to succeed and thrive.

Over the last few years, demand for our services has increased tremendously, as families cope with cuts to critical services that include healthcare, education, food and housing, as well as limited work opportunities and increasing costs for life’s necessities. Last year, Children’s Aid provided medical, dental and mental health services to 14,000 students; placed 900 children in safe foster homes; facilitated the adoption of 80 children; engaged 11,000 children in top quality after-school and summer camp programs and much more.

We at Children’s Aid ensure that these children receive adequate nutrition, healthcare, academic assistance and family support 365 days a year.  We know that this would not be possible without the continued and gracious contributions of supporters like you.

With best wishes for an enjoyable holiday, thank you for supporting the work of The Children’s Aid Society.

Sincerely,

Richard Buery

P.S. A couple of weeks ago we hosted Thanksgiving Dinner events at Children’s Aid sites in Harlem, Washington Heights and the Bronx. Hundreds of families came out to enjoy dinner with us or simply to have a warm place to reflect and be thankful.  To see more about the event at our Dunlevy Milbank Center in Harlem, please see media coverage from the New York Times below and ABC News  to the right.
