Corporate Sponsor Spotlight: #GivingTuesday
#GivingTuesday™ (#GT) is a movement to create a national day of giving to kick off the holiday season. It follows Black Friday, long a day for holiday retail promotions, and Cyber Monday, which encourages online shopping.
Organizers of Giving Tuesday decided that a day of giving belonged in the mix, and are now mobilizing corporations and nonprofit partners around the country to celebrate and encourage charitable activity for the second year.
Last year, New York hedge fund JANA Partners led efforts to raise funds that support after-school, health and early childhood programs at Children’s Aid. JANA’s efforts raised an impressive $25,000, and JANA has returned this year as our lead partner.
“JANA believes strongly in the mission of Children’s Aid and we’re proud to partner with them on Giving Tuesday,” said Charles Penner, a partner at JANA and a Trustee of Children’s Aid. “Throughout the year, it’s important to find ways to give back. We wanted our friends and business partners to share in the satisfaction we feel in helping our city’s neediest children follow their dreams.”
To mark this year’s event, Children’s Aid will work with corporate partners to generate excitement about Giving Tuesday among employees. Around the country, families and individuals are “encouraged to be generous in whatever ways matter to them, whether that means volunteering at a local charity or donating to a favorite cause.” Giving Tuesday organizers hope to beat the $10 million result they achieved last year.
