James Lyng High School is a Canadian secondary school located in the southwest sector of Montreal in Quebec.  This part of the city was once the heart of an industrial and manufacturing powerhouse, but in more recent times it has become seriously disadvantaged.  Students are characterized by both socioeconomic challenges and academic difficulties, and for many of them, belonging to this school community is the most powerful driver of their resilience.

Although the Children’s Aid Society (CAS) is not an arts organization, throughout our history the arts have been indispensable, not just an add-on.Even during this challenging economic time the Arts Committee of our Board of Directors is determined to maintain the arts across the agency.  Arts exposure, arts education and arts through education for children and youth, and even for their families, are still alive and well at our community schools as well as at our community centers.

School Based Health Centers (SBHC) are considered by experts as one of the most effective and efficient ways to provide preventive health care. With a parent's consent for services, medical, dental and mental health issues are addressed in the school setting. This proactive approach prevents health issues from becoming acute concerns in the home, emergency room or community. As a result, youngsters miss fewer school days and parents miss fewer days at work.
