EXCEL

Our EXCEL (Educational eXcellence Creating Empowered Leaders) Program places motivated yet underprivileged New York City youth, from across Children’s Aid, on a higher education track as early as the 8th grade.

Distinct from scholarship programs that focus only on a student’s financial need or academic ability, the EXCEL program consists of several core components:

  • financial literacy,
  • career exploration and goal setting,
  • academic support,
  • social support, and
  • scholarship support.

designed to prepare youth for college and the world of work.

EXCEL’s financial literacy component, comprised of Economic Empowerment Initiative, Milestone Awards and the College Scholarship Fund, addresses the particular challenges low-income students and families face in reaching their higher education dreams.

When combined, these components show EXCEL participants that ongoing attention to personal, academic and professional objectives can yield enormous rewards.
