Volunteers Help Teens Prepare for the Workplace

YES Group: (l-r) CAS Volunteers - Lisa Wright, Lauren Hanson, Bonnie Arsenault, Ernesto Isaac (Hope Assistant Director), and Andrew Briggie

In June 2006, a group of direct-service volunteers spent four evenings helping teens at The Hope Leadership Academy prepare for their upcoming summer employment. Volunteers conducted a series of mock group interviews, critiquing youth on professional appearance, public speaking skills and resume layout. By the end, youth were armed with tips and strategies to improve their overall presentation and prepare for their upcoming job interviews.

This was all part of the Youth Employment Summer program (YES!) in collaboration with the Hope Leadership Academy. YES! provides more than 20 corporate internships annually to highly motivated students. Participants also have the opportunity to visit Ivy League colleges, meet with college students, attend classes and participate in cultural heritage events.
