Early Child Education Forum Helps Raise Awareness

Earlier this month, The Children's Aid Society welcomed Ms. Jennifer Jones Austin, Family Services Coordinator for the City of New York, as she spoke to a group of concerned parents, educators, and citizens about the efforts of local government to improve the quality of education for children under the age of four in NYC.
Entitled, "Choosing A Solid Foundation for Success: Understanding Early Child Education in NYC", guests listened intently as Ms. Austin spoke about the plan to help parents access Headstart, Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK), and Child Care services. Ms. Austin also urged concerned residents to get involved in helping to expand UPK to full day classes by supporting a proposal to provide the program with an additional 10 million dollars.
Sponsored by the Associates Council Social Issues and Advocacy Committee, this event marked the first in a series of small speaker forums designed to address the state of education in New York City.
