Associates Council: Building for the Future
“Our most important ongoing responsibility is to engage more members of the New York community to give with their hands, their hearts, and, yes, their wallets.”
----Hannah Thonet, President of the Associates Council (AC)
We’ve got a new logo! We’ve got great AC leaders, wonderful co-chairs and lots of new members! We’ve got a long and impressive history of supporting the programs of The Children’s Aid Society! We’ve started an ambitious calendar of happy hours and other events! And we’ve got a lot of important projects and challenges in 2008!
So what are we recruiting for? The Associates Council, a leadership arm of The Children’s Aid Society’s volunteer community, is beginning an intensive campaign to boost our membership. As the economy struggles, so do all kinds of child and youth-centered programs---which are historically under-funded even in the best economic times. As in the past, the AC is stepping up to help raise necessary funds for volunteer programs like Saturday Outings and Project Live and to help raise public awareness of the mission of The Children’s Aid Society and the needs of the children, youth and families that we serve.
We need dedicated people to help with events planning, marketing, fundraising, graphic design, volunteer recruitment and retention, program evaluation, social advocacy and public relations and education. If you love social networking, volunteer cultivation and working for the rights of children and their families, please consider volunteering with The Associates Council --or coming back to the fold if you’ve volunteered with us in the past. The time commitment is one monthly 90 minute meeting on a weekday evening and some off-site projects and events (i.e. bringing your friends to happy hours, research, outreach, resource cultivation).
We invite you to join us for our next meeting:
Associates Council General Meeting
Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
McGraw Hill Building at 1221 Avenue of the Americas, 41st floor (between 49th and 6th Avenue)
You must RSVP for this meeting to Scott McLeod at
scottm@childrensaidsociety.org
The Associates Council will be coming together to plan our upcoming happy hours and other fundraising events, volunteer program recruitment and evaluations and social issues speaker events and advocacy initiatives. For part of the evening, we'll work in small groups, and then we'll meet as a full group to move forward on overall Associates Council objectives and projects.
