Direct Service Volunteers

Direct Service Volunteers are the lifeblood of many of our programs and services.  They bring energy, expertise and enthusiasm to what they do and enhance programming on many levels.  As the name suggests, Direct Service volunteers work directly with our children and families on a regular or semi-regular basis.  Most of our Direct Service opportunities occur in Harlem, Washington Heights and the Bronx but are also spread throughout our other locations in the city.

This type of volunteer service could include tutoring, mentoring, homework help, clerical assistance or participating in a series of workshops.  While serving as a Direct Service volunteer, you will be placed at one of our many locations throughout the city and will work closely with an onsite staff person.  Volunteering in this capacity will require you to register as a Children’s Aid volunteer—a process that includes, at minimum, an application and a background check.
