Office of Volunteer Services

The Office of Volunteer Services is committed to ensuring that our volunteers have a positive and rewarding experience during their time with us. We provide Children’s Aid programs and staff with access to dedicated individuals looking to donate a portion of their time working directly with and on behalf of our children and families. Currently, the Office of Volunteer Services supports over forty programs and events involving volunteers.


Kathleen Connelly, Director - Kat is responsible for recruiting and managing Direct Volunteers, both individual and groups. She also works with the Development Department on forming strategic partnerships and with the Associates Council on membership and fundraising events. Kat was formerly Manager of Volunteers for Dress for Success Worldwide. Prior to that was Vice President of Wayne Lachman Productions in New York City where she produced videos and events for major cosmetic companies. Kat's roots were in Broadcast television, working with CBS Affiliates in Beaumont and San Antonio, Texas as a producer and feature reporter.

Malia Poai, Assistant Director - Malia is responsible for assisting in the cultivation of individual, group, and corporate volunteers for Children’s Aid.  Malia also works closely with expanding the Associates Council and organizing special events for the department.  Prior to working for Children’s Aid, Malia worked at St. Matthew’s & St. Timothy’s Neighborhood Center, providing play therapy and developmental assessments to preschoolers and worked closely with the Executive Director on various projects including evaluations and grant writing projects.  A Utah transplant, Malia brings over ten years of extensive experience working in the world of mentoring from directing her own program, to serving in various leadership capacities for the Utah Mentoring Partnership, to overseeing a three year federal Dept. of Education mentoring grant here at Children’s Aid.  She holds a Masters Degree of Social work from Columbia University, specializing in Advanced Generalist Practices and Programming with a focus on Children and Families.
