The Honor the Game program’s mission is to transform youth basketball so it can transform youth. Winning is a goal, but more emphasis is placed on providing children with positive experiences that will help them grow into successful, contributing members of a larger society.

Approximately 700 boys and girls ages 7 through 18 meet Saturdays from fall until spring for practice and games. They are taught to respect the game of basketball, their opponents, officials, teammates and themselves.

Honor the Game coaches encourage each child to believe that the best way to advance the team is through self-improvement and growth. Honor the Game originated at a Children’s Aid middle school in Washington Heights a decade ago and is now in nearly all of our community schools. As youth leave the program at 19, they are encouraged to return as coaches.
