Doctor from Staten Island wrote $2 million in bogus prescriptions (7/26/13)

Somehow sanctions didn't stop Dr. Zhanna Kanevsky from playing a key role in a $3.4 million prescription drug ring based in Brooklyn, said prosecutors.

Between January of last year and May of this year, Dr. Kanevsky, 52, wrote scripts valued at 2 million dollars. Also charged in the case were Grasmere resident Rostislav (Steve) Vilshteyn, 34, of Pamela Lane; Alla Kuratova, 49, of Brooklyn, and Emil Shumunov, 43, of South Amboy, N.J. The culprits recruited the bogus patients, said authorities.
