City Drops Bid to Ban Display of Cigarettes (11.5.13)

NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg dropped a key provision from his anti-tobacco legislation that would have banned cigarettes from being publicly displayed in stores, according to a report from the New York Times.

In order for someone to buy a pack of cigarettes, a customer would have to retrieve them from a secure area after granted access by the store clerk, the report said. That portion of the bill was aimed at turning kids away from smoking by putting cigarettes out of sight.
