Are Marijuana Clubs the Future for New York? (1/2/13)
Less than one month after Colorado enacted legislation that allowed recreational marijuana use, two member only marijuana clubs have opened in the city.
More than 200 people, paying a $29.99 admission celebrated the New Year in Club 64, one of the bring-your-own pot clubs.
The new law prohibits public consumption and smoke free laws stop smoking indoors but private clubs are permissible because marijuana isn’t sold and is not considered a food or drink.
Club 64 attorney Robert Corry said, “It’s just a place for adults to exercise their constitutional rights together.”
Chloe Villano, the club owner, said the pot club would meet monthly at different locations, with the $29.99 membership fee good for only one event.
