The goal of the Rhinelander Nursery School is to promote an early love of learning and school. The Nursery School enrolls children ages 2.5 to 5. Warm and inviting classrooms house areas for activities such as reading, writing, block building, art and imaginative play. The curriculum promotes socialization and school readiness. Rooftop decks offer private, outdoor play space.

Educational Philosophy
At Rhinelander, the emphasis is on nurturing the needs of each child within a group setting. Our child-centered approach supports language and literacy development, social and emotional growth and creative thinking. We believe learning should be fun and employ a play-based, multi-sensory approach. Children develop their skills and senses differently — some need to "see it"; some need to "hear it", others need to "try it". Our multi-faceted lesson plans address the needs of a diverse group of learners.

A Typical School Day
A typical school day at Rhinelander includes free and structured indoor play-time, group meeting time, lesson time, snack, outdoor play and story time. Art, cooking, science, reading, writing and math are all woven into various classroom activities.

Teaching Staff and Teacher-Student Ratios
Each Nursery School class is led by an experienced teacher, certified in Early Childhood Education, with a Master’s Degree. Our Assistant Teachers are progressing towards degrees, and all have years of experience working at Rhinelander and in other educational settings. Specialist teachers provide additional lessons in music and art. A typical class at Rhinelander has one teacher for every 4-6 children.

Classes and Schedule
The Nursery School currently includes five classes:

Morning classes can be combined with offerings in Rhinelander’s Early Childhood Program, for an extra fee, to form an 8:30/9:00-1:00/2:00 school day. Afternoon Pre-K classes can also be combined with Early Childhood Program classes or the After School Arts and Smarts Clubs to extend the school day.

Admissions
The Rhinelander Nursery School is an ISAAGNY member school. All the non-profit member schools of ISAAGNY admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin in administration of our educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

Rhinelander is dedicated to serving the diverse needs of our community and adheres to a need-blind admissions policy. Financial aid is available by application.
