WHAT:
Dedication and opening of a renovated swimming facility at The Children’s Aid Society’s Goodhue Center in Staten Island. Revamped locker rooms, originally built in 1936, will be open to the many children who use the swimming pool. State Senator John Marchi (R- Staten Island), the nation’s longest-serving state legislator, will dedicate the pool complex in memory of his late brother, Ferdinand “Nando” Marchi. Ferdinand Marchi was Staten Island Republican Commissioner of the New York City Board of Elections for 14 years and an active supporter of The Children’s Aid Society’s Goodhue Center. He was a past president of the Goodhue Advisory Committee, on which he served for many years.
WHY:
The Children’s Aid Society views swimming and water play as essential rites of childhood that impart important safety skills as well as badly needed outdoor recreation. The Goodhue Center’s renovated swimming facility will provide more than 1,000 children and families with an even better experience when visiting the swimming pool.
PHOTO OPS:
Beautiful camp setting. Youngsters of all ages and backgrounds, dedication ceremony, political dignitaries and Children’s Aid Society executives will be available for photos.
