What:
The Children’s Aid Society’s “Derby Day” is an annual day of volunteer community service, named because it occurs on the first Saturday in May – the same day as the Kentucky Derby. Corporate employees, community members and students will volunteer at 16 Children’s Aid Society locations across the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.
Hundreds of students, parents and volunteers will beautify The Children’s Aid Society’s Bronx Family Center, a major services hub, and surrounding environs. Four banners will be created reflecting the wide range of services offered by Children’s Aid in the Bronx. New plants and flowers will add greenery to the parking lot.

What:
After spending the morning working at the Bronx Family Center, volunteers, community members, parents and children will head over to nearby C.S. 61 / I.S. 190 for the “Derby Day” Carnival. The Carnival will include games, basketball and a talent show, as well as resources and services such as mammograms, fire safety tips and the opportunity to add children’s fingerprints to the NYPD system to help ensure their safety.
At 2:00 p.m., New York State Assemblyman Michael Benjamin and New York City Council Member Annabel Palma will address the crowd.
