October 6, 2005 – New York, NY - The New York Urban League, in partnership with The Children’s Aid Society; and Washington Mutual, is hosting its nineteenth annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities Fair. This year the Fair will be held on Saturday, November 12th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, at the Riverbank State Park located at 145th Street and Riverside Drive.
For the nineteenth consecutive year, the New York Urban League is convening this Fair, which attracts over 2,000 high school students and their parents from every borough in the City, as well as some of the surrounding areas. “We want to ensure that our children have the broadest opportunity to be successful in their educational endeavors. That way we will have the next generation of talent to return to and serve our communities,” said Darwin M. Davis, President/C.E.O. of the New York Urban League.
Many Historically Black Colleges and Universities as well as college support services will be participating in this annual event. Come to the Fair to find out about the school of your child’s choice! Parents as well as students are encouraged to attend workshops about financial aid; the college application process; testing with the new S.A.T. and writing a personal statement! Learn about upcoming college tours! In some cases, school recruiters will be present who will waive application fees, or provide on-site admissions. Bring your S.A.T. scores, as well as official high school transcripts in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
Pre-register online for the Fair at http://www.nyul.org For further information call the New York Urban League at 212 926-8000 x. 100 or email Adrian Lewis at aalewis@nyul.org or Mark Payne at mpayne@nyul.org.
