Special program will highlight importance of after-school programs to Bronx families

What:
The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) will host a “Lights On After-School” event as part of The Afterschool Alliance’s 6th annual nationwide celebration of after-school programs. This commemoration will be one of 7,000 such events across the country.
The Children’s Aid Society’s after-school programs at its community schools and centers provide safe places to enrich and supplement what children learn during the school day through academic support, recreation, arts and technology and peer mediation and conflict resolution.
The afternoon will include an opportunity for students to ask questions of the assembled elected officials and their representatives. Arts and recreation activities will be showcased in a skit performed by middle school students, a poem by elementary schoolers and various activities in the gym.
