Frederick Douglass Panthers Win Big in Fairfax!
April 3, 2007
The Children's Aid Society Frederick Douglass Panthers traveled to Fairfax, Virginia March 30 – April 1 for an AAU Tournament of Champions and came home victorious.
Competition was stiff, with teams from across the country competing. The girls age 15 and under team won all four of their games, as did the 13 and under team. The 12 and under team won three of four games. Coach Hammer Stevens was thrilled with the teams' performances and said that this marks the first time that three Panther teams have done so well in a national competition.
Coach Stevens said, "We are very excited because we have added a lot of new players to our teams and are building on our past successes. I'm very proud of these teams and their victories in Fairfax."
Coach Stevens is a good judge of basketball talent; two of his former players met in the NCAA womens basketball championship. Early in their basketball careers, he coached Epiphanny Prince, now at Rutgers, and Shannon Bobbitt, now of the University of Tennessee.
