Advocates Rally at City Hall for Asthma Awareness
September 9, 2009
On September 3rd The Children’s Aid Society joined the East Harlem Asthma Working Group for a rally at City Hall to raise awareness of the high asthma rates in Harlem, East Harlem, the Bronx and parts of Brooklyn.
The rally was held in advance of the 8th Annual Asthma March, scheduled for Saturday, September 12. Four of the March’s five Grand Marshals – Angela Diaz, MD, MPH, Director, Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center and President of Children’s Aid’s Board of Trustees; Debi B. Jackson, WBLS Radio personality; and Morgan Strydom, 12, and Kyla Bonner, 11, asthma sufferers from Children’s Aid‘s East Harlem Center – were on hand to share their experiences with asthma and encourage everyone to join them at the March. New York City Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito, a longtime supporter of asthma awareness and the Asthma March, also addressed the crowd.
Saturday’s Asthma March will begin at 11:00 am at Council Member Mark-Viverito’s office at 105 East 116th Street and proceed to the New York State Office Building on 125th Street.
