NECO President Maurice A. Buckley joins Executive Director Rosemarie Taglione and C. Warren Moses, 2007 medalist and CEO of The Children’s Aid Society, to announce the winners of the 2007 Ellis Island Medals of Honor, Thursday, May 10, at 10:45 AM at The Children’s Aid Society, 105 East 22nd Street (at Park Avenue South).
Some of this year's honorees include: Her Excellency Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, President of the 61st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, U.S. Congressman Tom Lantos, Chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Founder and Co-Chairman of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus, Patrol Borough Queens North Commander Diana Pizzuti, NYPD, and actor George Hamilton.
Each year, NECO awards Ellis Island Medals of Honor to citizens who have made outstanding contributions to our nation and to the world. The Ellis Island Medals of Honor ceremony celebrates the immigrant experience on Ellis Island, through which millions of immigrants passed on their way to a new life in America. This year’s ceremony takes place on Saturday, May 12 at 6 PM on Ellis Island.
NECO is the largest organization of its kind in the U.S., serving as an umbrella group for hundreds of various ethnic organizations representing five million family members and whose mandate is to preserve ethnic diversity, promote ethnic and religious equality, tolerance and harmony, and combat injustice, hatred and bigotry.
