We are proud to announce that three members of The Children’s Aid Society family have been recently appointed to serve as members of NYC Community Schools Advisory Board: Jane Quinn, vice president for community schools and director of the National Center for Community Schools; Ife Lenard, principal of Children’s Aid College Prep Charter School; and Wanda Soto, principal at P.S. 5 – one of our full-service schools in Washington Heights.

The advisory board is composed of stakeholders from various sectors—foundations, business, education, research, health, and nonprofit providers, all of which play a role in existing and new community schools. Mayor de Blasio’s charge to the advisory board is helping enhance existing programs, raising the bar for community schools across the city, increasing parental involvement, and developing new community schools that respond to the needs of the whole child. We have no doubt that our colleagues’ deep experience implementing and teaching about community schools will be key in helping create effective community schools in New York City.
