NEW YORK – “We commend the Mayor, Speaker Quinn and the City Council for restoring funding for early childhood and after-school programs in some of New York City’s poorest neighborhoods. These programs put underprivileged children on a pathway to college and out of poverty. They set children up for success in school and support academic development and enrichment beyond the school day. They also help low-income families work – and stay employed – by providing skilled and secure care for their children. The actions of the leadership of this City put us one critical step closer to creating the high-quality, sustainable systems required to transform communities.”
The Children’s Aid Society is an independent, not-for-profit organization established to serve the children of New York City. Our mission is to help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive supports to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Founded in 1853, it is one of the nation’s largest and most innovative non-sectarian agencies, serving New York’s neediest children. Services are provided in community schools, neighborhood centers, health clinics and camps.
