Richard Buery, The Children’s Aid Society President and CEO:
“Data from the Census Bureau released Monday remind us that for middle- and low- income Americans, the economic recovery is far from complete. One in seven Americans – and one in five children – were poor in 2011. The pathway out of poverty remains far too obstructed. The persistent – and widening – income gap between rich and poor and the decline in social mobility that condemns children born in poverty to stay in poverty betray the promise of America. As we close in on Election Day, we call on candidates of both parties and at every level of government to share their plans to create viable pathways out of poverty for our most vulnerable children and families by investing in education, health and human services. Creating opportunity for every child is an economic and a moral imperative."
About The Children’s Aid Society The Children’s Aid Society is an independent, not-for-profit organization established to serve the children of New York City. Our mission is to help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive supports to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods.
