Children’s Aid’s Goodhue Garden and Naturalist Program on Staten Island has received a prestigious Captain Planet Foundation grant of $500. This very competitive grants program is open to organizations nationwide.

The Captain Planet Foundation’s mission is to fund and support hands-on environmental projects for children and youth. The Goodhue Garden and Naturalist Program serves over 500 children ages five through 15, exposing these children to the natural world while teaching them the origins of their food through both vegetable and flower gardens.

The grant will enable the children at Goodhue to plant six gardens this spring, to include 10 perennial plants, 20 vegetable and herb flats, and flower seeds and bulbs. Not only will the gardens beautify Goodhue, but the children will also learn about teamwork, patience and dedication.
