"Legacy" CAS/AileyCamp Performance
The 80 campers in the summer-long CAS/AileyCamp Washington Heights put on a wonderful end-of-camp performance for an enthusiastic audience on August 7, 2008 in Columbia University’s Miller Theater. These middle-school students, most with no prior dance experience, adeptly showcased a range of dancing styles in the performance, entitled “Legacy” to mark the 50th anniversary of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
The CAS/AileyCamp, based at Children’s Aid’s Mirabal Sisters Campus community school in Washington Heights, emphasized self-esteem, creative expression and critical thinking skills through – and apart from – dance. Students from Washington Heights, Central Harlem, East Harlem and the Bronx came together at the camp to learn dance and so much more.
