East Harlem Summer Campers Love New York
Campers at the East Harlem Center celebrated all things New York in their summer camp's final performance on Thursday, August 20th.
The Children’s Aid Society’s summer camp gave campers ages 5 to 12 the opportunity to become tourists in their own city using a "My New York City" curriculum. It included both instructive and fun activities designed to provide the children with an educational experience, building an appreciation for the vibrant city they call home.
The "My New York City" theme was developed intentionally as a curriculum for Children’s Aid Society day camps that could engage all age groups in different kinds of learning and thus defeat the "summer slide:" the tendency of students to lose months of achievement in reading and math skills by remaining unchallenged during the summer months.
