African American & Dominican Heritage Festival 2009
Students and staff of the Children's Aid Society Community Schools came together on Friday, February 27th to celebrate African-American and Dominican Heritage month at the Salome Urena de Henriquez campus in Washington Heights. Landscapes, costumes and roadside vendors were beautifully re-created throughout the school halls and student performances ranged from Merengue and Salsa dances to Hip-Hop and Step and poetry. In addition to the crowd of family, friends and Children's Aid staff, elected officials including Assemblymember Adriano Espaillat, Councilmembers Miguel Martinez and Melissa Mark-Viverito, and Congressman Charles B. Rangel and Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer joined the celebrations
