2011 African American & Dominican Heritage Festival
The Children's Aid Society Community Schools came together on Friday, February 18th to celebrate African-American and Dominican Heritage month at the Salome Urena de Henriquez campus in Washington Heights. This year's theme was "Carnivals," with colorful representations of carnivals of Brazil, Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominican Republic, Mali, South Africa, Guinea and the United States. The evenings celebrations began with a lively open house that featured a Jazz Band playing Mardi Gras tunes and tasty appetizers from the different countries. Festive performances from the children were a wonderful kick-off to the long weekend.
