2010 Youth Speak Out on Education
On April 1, 2010, teens from Children's Aid Society community centers and schools gathered to discuss issues that impact their education like budget cuts, the foster care system and Metrocards.
Presented by the Audrey Miller Poritzky Education Fund for Children and Children's Aid, the conference featured student presentations and three Audrey Miller Poritzky memorial scholarships.
In attendance were Dennis Walcott, New York City Deputy Mayor for Education, Community Development, Robert Jackson, Chair of the New York City Council's Education Committee, Lewis A. Fidler, Chair of the Youth Services Committee and City Council members Charles Barron, Daniel Dromm, James Sanders, Jr., Gale Brewer and Fernando Cabrera. James Ford from “PIX Morning News” on WPIX moderated the discussion between the youth and Council Members.
