On February 19, 2009, over 200 teens from Children's Aid Society community centers and schools gathered to discuss the New York City school environment and academic success at the 5th annual Youth Speak Out on Education.
Presented by the Audrey Miller Poritzky Education Fund for Children and Children's Aid, the conference featured student presentations, awards for Amazing Young People and Audrey Miller Poritzky memorial scholarships.
Dennis Walcott, New York City Deputy Mayor for Education and Community Development, and Robert Jackson, a member of the New York City Council's Education Committee, were in attendance to hear the students' thoughts on their schools.
