The Children’s Aid Society’s Neighborhood Youth Employment Program (NYEP) helps disconnected adolescents find stability and self-worth through a solid introduction to the world of work.
Mentoring and job training help prepare disconnected youth for the adult world.
NYEP serves approximately 70 youth each year in two, 16-week cycles. Participants are drawn from Children’s Aid’s Foster Care Independent Living Unit, Therapeutic Foster Home Program, Medical Foster Care, PINS (Persons in Need of Supervision) Preventive Unit, City Challenge Aftercare Collaboration, Community Re-entry Program and Literacy and GED Preparation programs for system-involved youth.
Participants receive a four-month paid internship with a Children's Aid Society mentor. Other benefits include:
- Outreach and assessment.
- Intense career and job readiness training.
- Membership in the weekly Job Club.
- A monthly mentor support group.
- Ongoing job support and assistance for program graduates.
