One hundred percent of the net proceeds of The Children’s Aid Society’s 2009 Golf Classic will benefit the neediest children and families of New York City. Children’s Aid was founded in 1853 and has grown to become one of the nation’s largest and most innovative non-sectarian agencies. Today, we serve over 150,000 children and families with a network of services that includes community schools, neighborhood centers, camps, adoption and foster care services, teen pregnancy prevention, education, health and recreation.
Children’s Aid’s work impacts the community as a whole. In the past school year, our school-based health centers received over 39,000 visits and prevented 360 visits to the emergency room saving the city, and New York City taxpayers, over $288,000. We helped 78 kids realize their dream of being adopted into a loving family. Children’s Aid’s groundbreaking work in school reform in partnership with the New York City Department of Education touched the lives of over 50,000 children, parents and community members and significantly improved the school climate and test scores. Our work with disconnected teens has helped countless kids get back on track.
When you visit one of our 45 locations, you will see kids working on computers, being tutored by dedicated mentors, kicking soccer balls or playing basketball, enjoying drama classes, visiting a doctor or an orthodontist. What you cannot see is that many of these young people came to Children’s Aid without hope and with limited options for their future. Every year Children’s Aid provides children with a safe, therapeutic and fun environment, and the opportunity to work with an experienced staff of social workers. With your help, we can ensure that these young people are able to enjoy positive childhood experiences while gaining stability in their lives, learning resiliency, and building the foundation for a happy, healthy and successful future.
For over 150 years, Children’s Aid has been fighting for New York City children – providing them not only with the necessities, but also with the healthcare, academic supports and basic life skills that are necessary for them to live happy and healthy lives.
