Summer Camp at Frederick Douglass Center
The Frederick Douglass Center offers its own camp for children ages 5-11. Also available is 7:45 a.m. daily pick-up for the Children's Aid country day camps at Wagon Road Camp in Westchester and William Osborn Day Camp on Staten Island.
The Frederick Douglass camp uses the whole city as its campus. The parks offer space for sports and field games; the museums and theaters bring workshops and cultural exploration; urban park rangers teach science and nature; tourist sites bring history lessons alive and the public pools keep the campers cool. The center itself engages each camper throughout the day in dramatic and fine arts, computer training, recreation and special events such as the summer carnival and the annual Sports of All Sorts event.
One eight-week session starts the first week in July. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Fees are on a sliding scale.
Space is limited and registration closes in early May.
