Qualifications: Must be a minimum of 18 years old , possess a WSI Certification and experience with children
Setting: The Children's Aid Society runs a summer day camp in Chappaqua, NY
that brings together children from Manhattan, the Bronx, and Westchester. Campers and staff are bused to and from the camp each day. The purpose of this camp is to provide traditional summer camp activities (swimming, arts & crafts, sports, horsemanship, etc.) in the context of relationship building. The children who attend this camp are from different socio-economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, and range in age from 6-13. A major goal of this camp is to help the children build relationships with each other so they can experience both what they have in common and what makes them different. This is done to broaden the horizons of all the children involved.
Program Dates: June 27, 2013 to August 14, 2013
Training Dates Three days in June 2013 TBA
Responsibilities: The Water Safety Instructor conducts all swim instruction and completes all deep water testing of staff and campers using the pool.
• Tests all the campers to assess swimming skill
• Conducts all swim instruction classes
• Supervises Aides who help with lessons
• Enforces all pool safety rules
• Supervised by the Water Front Director
• Is responsible for all course records and obtaining Red Cross Cards
• May work as a life guard as needed with appropriate certification
Stipend: $3400+
