Victor Remer, 1919 - 2008
The Board of Trustees and the staff of The Children’s Aid Society mourn the loss of our beloved and esteemed Victor Remer, who served Children’s Aid for 20 years as its Executive Director. We express our sympathy to his wife Alma, daughters Sari and Alice and their family.
Mr. Remer improved the lives of countless thousands of poor children and families throughout his lifetime of devotion to them. Mr. Remer was a leader in the field and an exemplar of caring and commitment to the poor.
For the last 20 years, Mr. Remer devoted himself to preserving and cataloging the case records of 129,000 orphan train riders who were placed in families across the country. This collection, now known as the Victor Remer Memorial Collection, is being archived and is located at the New-York Historical Society.
Mr. Remer will be deeply missed by all of us who knew and loved him.
