Nature Specialist: $3400-$3800

Program: 34 Days 3 Days of Training

Qualifications: Experience in teaching and activity planning. Knowledge of nature and life sciences. Experience in gardening. BA preferred.

Setting: The Children's Aid Society runs a summer day camp in Chappaqua, NY. The campers
range in age from 6-13, and are from all different socio-economic backgrounds.

Hours: 9:00-4:00pm Camp Program 4:30-6:00 Garden Maintenance and Planning

Responsibilities: The Nature Specialist is responsible to manage the Nature Program at the summer camp. This Nature Specialist must develop a curriculum to teach campers about plants, animals, weather, geology, and the different ecosystem located on the camp groups. In addition the Nature Specialist runs some of the programming in the Garden and is responsible to maintain the garden throughout the summer camp. The Nature Specialist is supervised by the Program Director.

The Nature Specialist is responsible to fulfill the following duties.
 Implement the Nature Program in the summer camp for all 36 groups of campers. Each group will have about 6 sessions over the seven weeks of camp.

 Nature program operates out of the Nature building and conducts activities all over the camp: garden, forest, creek, etc.

 Maintain all the supplies and equipment used in the program, keeping the storage area clean.

 Manage all the gardening supplies related to activities in the camp the Garden.

 Orient and monitor the use of basic garden tools for safety and effectiveness.

 Attend 3 days of training and orientation prior to camp.

 Complete the Staff Orientation Questionnaire

 Maintain the Garden: Hours from 4:30- 6:00 are intended to be used as time to weed, clean, harvest as needed so that garden is kept in working order.

 Fulfill job activities not listed here important to the success of the camp.
