History and Program
The Children’s Aid Society began its partnership with C.S. 61 in spring, 2002. Soon after, this K-8 school was divided into two schools: C.S. 61, serving grades PreK-5, and I.S. 190, The School of Environmental Science, Mathematics and Technology, serving grades 6-8.
Comprehensive health services are provided through linking the campus to the nearby Children's Aid Bronx Family Center, which offers services to the entire community. The school also provides Summer, Saturday, Holiday and After School programs; as well as Youth Council, Preventive Services, Parent Involvement and Adult Programs –such as parenting, vocational, advocacy, ESL, GED, Computer Training and leadership. Emergency relief is available through the New York Times Neediest Fund.
The campus is named after Francisco Oller Cestero (June 17, 1833 – May 17, 1917), an outstanding Puerto Rican artist considered to be the only Latin American painter to play a role in the development of Impressionism.
