From the CEO
This year marks the 160th anniversary of The Children’s Aid Society. As the city has changed around us over the years, our agency has remained the bedrock for New York’s neediest children, launching services and programs that were the first of their kind, decade after decade, and creating models for transformative programs such as foster care, pregnancy prevention and community schools.
This year, we celebrate our proud heritage by continuing this tradition of innovation. With programs like Family Rewards and Positive Deviance, we are investing in the ideas of the future, and where we find success, we hope to inspire others to follow our lead. With new facilities like our first-ever high school-based health clinic and our first early childhood center on Staten Island, we continue to respond to the changing needs of New York City, allowing our work to evolve so that we can achieve our mission of helping all children to succeed and thrive.
To mark this milestone, we will be releasing 30- and 60-second public service announcements featuring Children’s Aid students and staff at sites such as East Harlem, Milbank and Children’s Aid College Prep. The PSAs are being distributed to local television stations and will also be circulated widely over social media. We have also created a commemorative logo which will be displayed on our various online properties, including our web site and social media channels, as well as on publications throughout the year.
In the meantime, be sure to check out our new report on youth aging out of foster care (highlighted in “From the Blog”) and the Voice of America broadcast about the Carrera program (in “The Latest”)—just two examples of the scope and reach of our work, which your support makes possible.
We are proud to be your partner in transforming the lives of children for 160 years.
