School Vacation Program

Goodhue Center offers programs during school vacations for children ages 5-12. These include December Holiday, February President's Week and Spring Vacation. The dates generally will coincide with the New York City Public Schools calendar, but please contact Goodhue Center for exact days. Children participate in a wide-range of fun activities including sports, cooking, computers and arts and crafts. Bus transportation is not available on these days.


Participants are connected with CAS/AileyCamp, where boys and girls have the opportunity to spend the summer months learning dance from professionals from The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Summer Soccer Camp

Professional instructors teach Goodhue Center's one-week Soccer Camp. Players participate in skills and drills as well as daily games. They also can swim at the Goodhue Center pool.


Boys and girls 5-13.


Registration begins in March and ends in June. Call The Goodhue Center for exact dates and to enroll your child.


$180 per child.

Bronx Early Childhood Center

The Bronx Early Childhood Center provides a safe, nurturing environment to children ages 2 through 5 years old. The program is open to all children, including those with special needs.  BECC also provides homebased Early Head Start service to children and families from pregnancy to 2yrs.

The curriculum meets the developmental needs of each age group and focuses on language, literacy, math, science, creative thinking, problem-solving and social skills. Family engagement is essential for the continued success of the program.

Adult Programs

The Frederick Douglass Center offers these activities for adults in the community:

  • ESL (English as a Second Language) Classes.
  • Aerobics Classes, 6-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Workshops in nutrition, health and fitness.

Summer Camp

The Children’s Aid Society believes that summer provides children with an important opportunity to play, learn new skills, meet new friends and be exposed to the world outside their community. That's why the East Harlem Center hosts four different programs: Home Camp, Bridge Camp, Wagon Road Camp and Alvin Ailey Dance Camp.

All Camp Programs utilize project-based learning and theme curriculums to enhance the summer learning opportunities.

Home Camp:

Fall Saturday Program

Sewing Class

For children ages 11-14. Learn basic sewing skills, sewing by hand & learn how to work with textiles & patterns.

Basketball Clinic

Beginning and advanced players ages 7-14 are taught basketball skills.


11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during three Saturdays in November.


Call the Goodhue Center in October to register your child for either program.

Fee: $45 per child.

Head Start

The Head Start program offers child-focused programs designed to prepare young children for elementary school. The daily program provides a range of individualized services in the following areas:

  • Education and early childhood development
  • Medical, dental and mental health
  • Nutrition
  • Parent involvement

The program is responsive and appropriate to each child's and family's developmental, ethnic, cultural and linguistic heritage and experience.
