The Children's Aid/AileyCamp empowers young people by helping them develop a strong sense of self-esteem, self-expression and mastery. It is made possible through a more than 15-year-long partnership between Children's Aid and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

Each summer, 80 Children’s Aid campers (ages 10 to 14) from throughout New York City spend three hours a day, four days a week, learning the basic techniques of ballet, modern dance, jazz and tap. On Fridays, campers celebrate the week's accomplishments during special outings to museums, bowling alleys, swimming pools, skating rinks and other recreation centers.

Family and friends gather for the culmination of the student's summer experience: a high-energy original performance designed entirely by the campers. Students who excel are asked to join the winter-season AileyCamp Too!.

Children's Aid/AileyCamp is held at the Children's Aid Society community school, Mirabal Sisters Campus, in Washington Heights. In summer 2007, we introduced an additional AileyCamp at our community school I.S. 61 William A. Morris School in Staten Island.
